I love finding new angles to shoot “the wheel”.
I was a huge sceptic of the London Eye when it was first proposed over a decade ago. At the time it was described as a Ferris Wheel in the center of London, something that sounded cheap, tacky and touristy. Not sensitive to the banks of the Thames, which are full of history.
That was then, this is now. 4 “flights” later (as a trip on the wheel is described – that’s British Airways sponsorship for you) and I’m a fan. The architects, David Marks and Julia Barfield, did such an amazing job designing a structure that is beautiful, with steel spokes that make it light like a bicycle wheel. Somehow it draws attention to itself, then disappears again when you look West towards Parliament or East towards St. Paul’s Cathedral. Engineering at its finest.
