Another great post from BLDGBLOG. I particularly love the idea they mention of re-engineering our driving routes for fuel efficiency. In this case, UPS are apparently looking at cutting down the number of left turns their delivery trucks have to take in the US. Since they can turn right even when the light is red (unlike the UK) they have far less idling time. Left turns on the other hand often involve sitting in the middle of the junction waiting for traffic to pass, and are hence more inefficient.
I particularly like the fact that efficiency = lower emissions = lower costs. Is anybody (apart from the petrol companies) not happy?
Maybe they could cut out all the uphills, but keep the downhills, in my drive to work. That would make my Prius happy.
