Green Tech: Green Plug Is Promiscuous and Energy Efficient Like a Lady of the Night
“Green plug hubs—which can have multiple gadgets jacked into it—have a microcontroller chip that chats up devices with the green talk protocol to intelligently deliver juice so none’s wasted. It turns off gear that’s good to go and supposedly does AC to DC power version like a Russian chess prodigy. Supposedly we’ll see some green plug-compliant gear at CES, so you can be sure we’ll check it out.”

Sounds really clever, but I’m guessing it’ll be difficult to get it adopted in the marketplace, as to benefit from it you’ll need both the plug, and equipment that’s compatible with the plug. Bit of a chicken and egg situation, as Green Tech will need to convince equipment manufacturers to make green-plug-compliant equipment, and it’ll be hard to convince those equipment manufacturers if there isn’t already a customer base for the plug (and it’ll be hard to get people to buy the plug without there being any compatible equipment).

Anyway I’m confusing myself trying to explain a simple point that’s pretty obvious anyway, so I’ll stop now!
